Showcasing its iconic creation, the Desert Boot, which will be on display alongside the story behind the world’s first ‘dress casual’ shoe. To mark the partnership, actor and Clarks ambassador, Alexander Skarsgård, will be appearing at Townhouse for an onstage interview on Saturday evening.

Marking a first for this year’s Townhouse, our official car sponsor CUPRA will be running a special car concierge service for Townhouse guests from 4pm – 10pm on Thursday and Friday and 12pm – 10pm on Saturday. B&O Rugby World Cup, Football Premiership and Film Screenings

High-end sound and vision technology with design are the hallmarks of Danish technology brand Bang & Olufsen, who are joining us at this year’s Esquire Townhouse as official sound and vision partner. You can experience their products for yourself with a Friday screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo and our Saturday screenings of Blade Runner 2049, the Rugby World Cup and the Premier League Football.

6:00pm: R.E.M. Special: 25th Anniversary of Monster

In a rare onstage interview, R.E.M’s Michael Stipe and Mike Mills will be speaking at Townhouse to mark the 25th anniversary reissue of their ninth album ‘Monster’, an album released in a seminal year for music and which saw the band at the height of their powers following breakout global success with ‘Out of Time’ and ‘Automatic For The People’ and prior to the legendary Monster tour of 1995. In many ways, the story of Monster is the story of the band and its enduring legacy. Don’t miss what will be a fascinating insight into music history in the making.

6:00pm: The State We’re In: An Evening With John Lanchester

Often praised for his eloquence and terrifying exactness, the award-winning novelist and journalist John Lanchester is a master chronicler of and commentator on the modern world. He’s covered Artificial Intelligence, Facebook and the global economic crash with the same laser eye and is on this year’s longlist for The Booker Prize with his dystopian novel, The Wall, an all too plausible depiction of life in Britain after environmental catastrophe. Expect a fascinating discussion with one of our great thinkers.

7:30pm: Tracks of My Years: Tracey Thorn in Conversation with Miranda Sawyer

Singer-songwriter-author Tracey Thorn – best known as half of platinum-selling duo Everything But The Girl alongside partner Ben Watt – discusses her remarkable and diverse musical career with journalist Miranda Sawyer. Interspersed with key clips from some of Thorn’s most celebrated performances, the evening’s central theme will explore musical collaboration across various genres and how it differs from creating her solo material. Tracks under the microscope will include EBTG’s “Missing” — and how Todd Terry’s club remix made it an international smash — recordings with Paul Weller’s soul-based Style Council, Australian indie icons The Go-Betweens and Bristol trip-hoppers Massive Attack, plus more recent work with John Grant and Jens Lekman. Expect insight, candour, wit and musical memories from one of our most distinctive and treasured voices.

7:30pm: A Taste of Malta Supper Club with Visit Malta

A unique 4-course dinner with wine pairing.

Maltese cuisine is a fantastic mix of flavours and techniques, blending various influences from Europe and the middle east with strong traditions of its own. In this special superclub hosted by the Maltese Tourism Board, guests will enjoy a four course meal from acclaimed Maltese chef Rafel Sammut, who will be serving dishes curated with local ingredients paired with wine from the Marsovin vineyard, showcasing the best of the Island’s gastronomic scene. Dining in the grand surroundings of the Music Room at Esquire Townhouse, this promises to be a memorable evening spent discovering Malta’s food and culture.

8:30pm: Beef Butchery Masterclass & Steak Tasting with The Ginger Pig

A rare chance to get up close and personal with the butchery masters and join them for dinner.

Led by George Donelly, one of The Ginger Pig’s most experienced and charismatic butchers, you’ll watch a full beef butchery demonstration during which George breaks down a whole rib and loin of beef, learning about the importance of dry-ageing, the qualities of each cut and where all the prime steaks come from. You’ll also taste a variety of steaks of different ages, accompanied with Bottle Apostle’s finest Chateau Puynard Bordeaux, fries and green salad in an informal dinner. All in the grand surroundings of the Townhouse dining room. It promises to be a lively and memorable evening not to be missed.

8:30am: The Business of Luxury In 2019: How Heritage Brands Adapt In an On-Demand World

Our business breakfast panel with St James’s examines the challenges and opportunities facing heritage and luxury brands in fast-moving modern markets. The discussion will explore the importance of innovation, agility and authenticity and how a flexible start-up mentality can benefit even long-established companies. The panel features three high-profile British brands, from one of London’s most creative neighbourhoods, with fascinating insight in this area: Jon Graham, CEO of Floris, Tim Little, owner and Creative Director of Grenson and Jess Mcguire-Dudley, Marketing and Design Director of John Smedley, chaired by Helen-Brocklebank, CEO of Walpole. Expect an illuminating and wide-ranging discussion which we can all learn lessons from.

One of the most influential designers working in men’s fashion, the Artistic Director of Dior men’s, Kim Jones, will be joining us on stage at Esquire Townhouse to discuss his exceptional career. Having been mentored by Alexander McQueen when first starting out, Jones has gone on to take the helm at a series of fashion houses, ushering in new eras each time and changing how we dress in the process. He’s kickstarted several major menswear trends on his own, including the high-fashion streetwear phenomenon. Now the first British designer to take a top job at Dior, this is a rare chance to hear about his influences, inspirations, working style and what’s still to come.

6:00pm: Mr Lyan Studio Cocktail Masterclass

The Mr Lyan Group is well known for both its award-winning cocktail bars and its sustainable approach. So we’re delighted to host Mr Lyan Studio for this exclusive Townhouse masterclass, where you will learn everything you need to put on a show-stopping cocktail party or drinks night at home, using everyday ingredients from your kitchen. You’ll be shown how to customise ingredients and maximise what you already have as the Mr Lyan bartender will demo a versatile three cocktail menu which you’ll be testing for yourself – and can enjoy in the bar downstairs if you have any left! 6:30pm: In Conversation with Salman Rushdie

Lauded by many as one of the greatest ever storytellers, the award-winning novelist and essayist Salman Rushdie will be joining us on stage at Esquire Townhouse to discuss his remarkable career. Twice awarded one of literature’s highest honours – ‘The Best of the Booker’ – for his seminal novel, Midnight’s Children, Salman Rushdie’s post-colonial fiction has been acclaimed as fearless and brilliantly bold; a reputation that has earned him both a Knighthood and a fellowship of the Royal Society of Literature. Now, with his new novel Quichotte,long-listed for the Booker, join us for a rare audience with one of our most celebrated writers.

8:00pm: In Conversation with Asif Kapadia

Part of the Fairmont Loves Film Series

Academy award winning director, Asif Kapadia, talks candidly to Esquire about the arc of his remarkable career, what drives him to choose his documentary subjects and how to tell a compelling story as he reveals the story to his new 2019 British documentary, DIEGO MARADONA, part of the Fairmont Loves Film series. Kapadia won the BAFTA Outstanding British Film of the Year for his epic debut feature THE WARRIOR, and an Academy Award & Grammy for his documentary, AMY, about the late Amy Winehouse.

8:30pm: An Evening With The Greats Of Italian Wine with Luca Dusi from Passione Vino

Luca Dusi is a London wine industry legend. There are few more knowledgeable experts or charismatic communicators than the owner of Shoreditch wine bar and shop Passione Vino, so when he puts on a special masterclass about the benchmark wines of Italy, trust us, you’ll want to be there. In this tasting he’ll be showcasing a selection of wines which are a true reflection of their heritage, terroir, style and local culture. Expect to be surprised by wines you think you know, expect the unknowns to become your new favourites, and expect to have a lot of fun finding out.

CUT-loose and leave the rest of the world at the door as we crank up the world class sound system and take you on our unique party on a bike experience. Its all about how you feel. No numbers, no competition, just fun.

9:00am and 10:00am: BXR London Boxing Skills* with Gary Logan and Tanya Morgan

BXR London, the world’s first high-end boxing gym, is bringing its signature ‘Boxing Skills’ class to Esquire Townhouse this autumn. Focussing on the essential elements of boxing, this class allows you to hone your skills and perfect your technique. Whether boxing is your chosen sport or is a technique you wish to learn and develop, this workout will have an overall conditioning benefit to your body.

9:00am: Power Yoga by BLOK* with Tom Boulter

Expect to challenge the body and calm the mind. Power Yoga is an empowering approach to vinyasa style yoga that focuses on strength, core conditioning and more experienced asana. This class will incorporate sun salutations, standing and balancing poses, twists, hip openers and backbends.

9:00am – 12:30pm: Third Space Medical Clinic with Andrew Nicholettos and Brinda Christopher *

Join the Third Space Medical team for a 15-minute clinic to examine how you can avoid injury and restore correct movement.

Injury prevention: Learn how to prevent injury with Third Space Medical’s Dr Brinda Christopher. Get bespoke tips and advice based on your body shape, flexibility and current training regime on how to injury-proof your body or deal with any existing niggles.

Gait analysis: Whether you play a particular sport, run long distances or even just for the bus, you use your feet all day every day. They withstand repetitive strain and high impacts, leading to increased risk of injury throughout the body. Third Space osteopath Andrew Nicholettos will be providing 15 minute gait analysis, looking for any biomechanical misalignments within the ankles and foot. The Mayfair restaurant’s Head Sommelier Pierre-Marie Faure will cover the topics of serving, tasting and navigating a wine list, as well as explaining how best to pair wines with different foods. 4:00pm: How to Start an Art Collection: A Masterclass for New Collectors with St James’s

A panel of leading experts advise how to navigate the contemporary art world in 2019; from traditional methods to the new and exciting ways art is being seen, sold and shared in the digital age. Frieze co-founder Matthew Slotover, Christie’s Contemporary Art Specialist, Stefano Amoretti, and Chairman of the Serpentine Future Contemporaries, Robert Sheffield, lead a lively and informative discussion, drawing on their personal experience to help you build and manage your collection. Topics covered will include art fairs, auction houses, art trends, buying from galleries, framing, curating your collection, digital commerce, technology and art trends for 2020. Chaired by art-historian and creator of the Art Matters podcast, Ferren Gipson.

5:00pm: In Conversation with Ben Fogle

Since first appearing on the BBC’s ambitious reality show-come-social experiment Castaway 2000, writer, presenter, adventurer and Breitling ambassador Ben Fogle has gone on to become one of our best-known ambassadors for the great outdoors. As well as appearing in a number of award-winning documentaries and TV series, Ben has also continued to push his own boundaries – most notably summiting Everest, walking to the South Pole and rowing across the Atlantic. In this rare in-depth interview he’ll share on-set anecdotes, discuss the films that influenced him, explain his working style, talk through his favourite clips and look ahead at what’s still to come. 6:00pm: Pasta Making Masterclass and Dinner With Pastaio’s Stevie Parle

Take up this exclusive chance to learn from one of the UK’s most talented chefs (and one of Esquire’s favourites) as Stevie Parle leads a pasta-making masterclass showcasing signature dishes from his brilliant soho restaurant, Pastaio.Learn the basics of pasta-making right through to the art of restaurant standard presentation in this intimate class, before sitting down with Stevie, a bowl of freshly made and cooked pasta and a glass of wine. 7:30pm: In Conversation with Sir Ben Ainslie

Join us for an evening with one of Britain’s most successful athletes, Sir Ben Ainslie, a man who loves to win, and has just the trophy cabinet to prove it. 8:30pm: Gin Cocktail Masterclass with Berry Bros. & Rudd

London’s oldest wine & spirit merchant, Berry Bros. & Rudd, has been one of St James’s many institutions since 1698, more recently launching its exceptional No. 3 Gin in 2010, which takes its name from its famous address. In this special Townhouse masterclass, No.3 cocktail ambassador William Campbell-Rowntree will be telling the story of how this award-winning spirit was born, and taking guests through a series of tastings including how to perfect a classic martini, how to understand a neat spirit’s flavours and introducing a fresh take on a classic gin and tonic. Writer and comedian Adam Kay’s hilarious and poignant medical memoir, ‘This is Going to Hurt’, about his time as a junior doctor, was a publishing sensation, selling over a million copies and prompting a nationwide sell-out tour. He has also written for numerous TV comedies, has sold out at Edinburgh six years running and even performed at Prince Harry’s 30th birthday party. His follow up book, ‘Twas the Nightshift before Christmas’ comes out the week of Esquire Townhouse and to mark the occasion, Adam will be hosting a very special evening of readings, comedy and audience questions.
