6:00pm: R.E.M.

In a rare onstage interview, R.E.M’s Michael Stipe and Mike Mills will be speaking at Townhouse to mark the 25th anniversary reissue of their ninth album ‘Monster’, an album released in a seminal year for music and which saw the band at the height of their powers following breakout global success with ‘Out of Time’ and ‘Automatic For The People’ and prior to the legendary Monster tour of 1995. In many ways, the story of Monster is the story of the band and its enduring legacy. Don’t miss what will be a fascinating insight into music history in the making.

6:00pm: The State We’re In: An Evening With John Lanchester

Often praised for his eloquence and terrifying exactness, the award-winning novelist and journalist John Lanchester is a master chronicler of and commentator on the modern world. He’s covered Artificial Intelligence, Facebook and the global economic crash with the same laser eye and is on this year’s longlist for The Booker Prize with his dystopian novel, The Wall, an all too plausible depiction of life in Britain after environmental catastrophe. Expect a fascinating discussion with one of our great thinkers.

7:30pm: Tracey Thorn and Miranda Sawyer

With a career spanning 40 years, singer-songwriter and writer Tracey Thorn – best known for being the frontwoman in the platinum-selling Everything But The Girl – discusses her remarkable career with Miranda Sawyer. A focus of the interview will be the idea of musical collaboration and how that differs from her more solitary writing work; Tracey will discuss specific songs from her discography, including works with Massive Attack and John Grant, alongside extracts from her novels. A rare and compelling live event with a woman considered to be one of the most thought-provoking, talented and interesting artists in music.

6:30pm: Salman Rushdie

Lauded by many as one of the greatest ever storytellers, the award-winning novelist and essayist Salman Rushdie will be joining us on stage at Esquire Townhouse to discuss his remarkable career. Twice awarded one of literature’s highest honours – ‘The Best of the Booker’ – for his seminal novel, Midnight’s Children, Salman Rushdie’s post-colonial fiction has been acclaimed as fearless and brilliantly bold; a reputation that has earned him both a Knighthood and a fellowship of the Royal Society of Literature. Now, with his new novelQuichotte,long-listed for the Booker, join us for a rare audience with one of our most celebrated writers.

8:00pm: Asif Kapadia

Academy award winning director, Asif Kapadia, talks candidly to Esquire about the arc of his remarkable career, what drives him to choose his documentary subjects and how to tell a compelling story. Kapadia won the BAFTA Outstanding British Film of the Year for his epic debut feature THE WARRIOR, and an Academy Award & Grammy for his documentary, AMY, about the late Amy Winehouse.

CUT-loose and leave the rest of the world at the door as we crank up the world class sound system and take you on our unique party on a bike experience. Its all about how you feel. No numbers, no competition, just fun.

9:00am and 10:00am: BXR London Boxing Skills* with Gary Logan and Tanya Morgan

BXR London, the world’s first high-end boxing gym, is bringing its signature ‘Boxing Skills’ class to Esquire Townhouse this autumn. Focussing on the essential elements of boxing, this class allows you to hone your skills and perfect your technique. Whether boxing is your chosen sport or is a technique you wish to learn and develop, this workout will have an overall conditioning benefit to your body.

9:00am: Power Yoga by BLOK* with Tom Boulter

Expect to challenge the body and calm the mind. Power Yoga is an empowering approach to vinyasa style yoga that focuses on strength, core conditioning and more experienced asana. This class will incorporate sun salutations, standing and balancing poses, twists, hip openers and backbends.

9:00am – 12:30pm: Third Space Medical Clinic with Andrew Nicholettos and Brinda Christopher *

Join the Third Space Medical team for a 15-minute clinic to examine how you can avoid injury and restore correct movement.

Injury prevention: Learn how to prevent injury with Third Space Medical’s Dr Brinda Christopher. Get bespoke tips and advice based on your body shape, flexibility and current training regime on how to injury-proof your body or deal with any existing niggles.

Gait analysis: Whether you play a particular sport, run long distances or even just for the bus, you use your feet all day every day. They withstand repetitive strain and high impacts, leading to increased risk of injury throughout the body. Third Space osteopath Andrew Nicholettos will be providing 15 minute gait analysis, looking for any biomechanical misalignments within the ankles and foot. He will offer tips on how to restore correct movement and function to minimise pain and injury.

10:00am: Cardio Killer by BLOK with Maiken Skoie Brustad*

Cardio killer is a 45 minute, non-stop full body workout incorporating strength training and focusing on increasing your metabolic rate. This mat based class moves through a constant variety of cardio, strength and core exercises. The relentless pace means it’s incredibly challenging for all: prepare to sweat.

10:00am: Equinox Boxing Bootcamp* with Robert Lynch and Charlie Peters

Get up in arms and punch, float and sting your way through this technique based boxing class – great for cardio conditioning, as well as building strength and endurance through, boxing drills, shadow boxing, kickboxing, jump rope, and a variety of core strengthening exercises.

10:00am and 11:00am: Last Pick Athletics Club (LPAC) Run Club*

Join the Last Pick Athletics Club (LPAC) for a 5K group run around central London. Whether you are a pro or novice, LPAC brings support instead of judgement, trial and error instead of strict rules and gives its members the confidence to try any sporting activity with a can-do attitude.

11:00am: Cardio Killer by BLOK with Maiken Skoie Brustad*

11:00am Class: Band Burn by Project by Equinox* with Michelle Morrey and Sandy Wasserbach

Band Burn is a new workout where conscious movement creates lean muscle, perfect posture and the more mobile joints with just a band and gliding disc. Sculpt every inch of your body and experience intense athletic, dynamic and fluid sequences that simultaneously target the lower and upper body to provide you with a fierce burn.

12:00pm Wellness panel: Intermittent Fasting Panel, part of the St James’s Series, with Sarah Ann Macklin, Winder Ton and Justin Jacobs

The latest wellness trend, intermittent fasting, is less a diet programme, more a lifestyle adjustment. Join our panel of experts: Nutritionists Sarah Ann Macklin and Winder Ton and Equinox Tier X trainer Justin Jacobs, and St James’s, to explore how intermittent fasting could work for you, the science behind how it works, and why it can benefit your health, followed by an audience Q&A.

7:30pm In conversation with Sir Ben Ainslie

Join us for an evening with one of Britain’s most successful athletes, Sir Ben Ainslie, a man who loves to win, and has just the trophy cabinet to prove it. Ainslie has won an astonishing five consecutive Olympic medals (four of which were gold) becoming the most successful Olympic sailor of all time, and going on to stage one of the greatest ever sporting comebacks at the helm of Team Oracle’s tactical team in the 2013 America’s Cup. He’s now underway on what could be his greatest challenge yet, as the Team Ineos skipper and Belstaff ambassador, prepares for a British assault on the 2021 America’s Cup. Expect him to talk candidly on a life spent at the very top of his sport.
