If you've ever quaked at the prospect of asking for a pay rise, you'll understand why negotiation skills are so important. Give yourself a fighting chance with this practical, hands-on workshop run by Natalie Reynolds, whose new Make Your Ask project aims to equip a million women around the world with the confidence to seal the deal in the world of work and beyond.

"One of the biggest mistakes people make when negotiating is that they become self obsessed," says Reynolds. "We go to the negotiating table thinking about all the things that matter to us - all the things that we want to achieve - and we fixate on them.

"What we will often then do, without realising it, is to fixate on them to the point that in order to get that thing we will give, and give, and give away - to try and incentivise the other side to give us what we want.

"You don't realise until the end of the deal that you've given away far more than you've got in return."

Reynolds has a passionate interest in the role that unconscious bias has in negotiation, specifically in relation to gender. She has advised the Wall Street Alliance and the London Women's Forum on how to overcome these obstacles, and is dedicated to giving women the tools they need to negotiate effectively and proactively. Her specially created workshop is designed to inform and empower women, no matter what their professional position might be.

Join our Bazaar at Work workshop with Reynolds on 12 September from 8.00 to 10.00am at 34 Mayfair. Tickets cost £40 (plus booking fee) and include a glass of Laurent-Perrier champagne, a full continental breakfast and a gift bag featuring products from Philip Kingsley.
